Rathlin 7 x 5”

A little about Rathlin

Rathlin is painted using acrylic on a canvas size of  7×5

The thick green and brown paint depicts the mossy land, and if you look closely you will see the famous lighthouse (On July 6th 1898 Marconi and his associates successfully transmitted the first commercial radio signals across water from Rathlin’s East Lighthouse to Ballycastle on the Northern Irish mainland. There is a commemorative plaque at the harbour.)

Each glimpse reveals more detail.

A great gift for art lovers.

All original artwork is shipped free of charge.

Personalised gift notes can be added at checkout.

The inspiration behind Rathlin

‘Mayim’ the Hebrew name for water.

My ‘Mayim’ exhibition was a virtual exhibition that consisted of a live stream while I sat in formal attire in front of my laptop talking my audience through the various paintings. Lockdown and coronavirus meant that even the artists had to adapt!

My love of water-inspired these paintings and exhibitions. Water and waves at the beach, water in the lakes and waterfalls in the North and South of Ireland. I trust that you enjoy the brush or palette marks of each scene.

Mayim prices starting from £159

About Rathlin

Rathlin Island is an island and civil parish off the coast of County Antrim in Northern Ireland. It is Northern Ireland’s northernmost point.

Rathlin Island sits off the north coast of Ireland, its closest point is approx. 2.25 miles from Fair Head . It is also the closest point to Scotland and is 11 miles from the Mull of Kintyre . It is roughly seven miles in length and covers a total area of 3500 acres . Because of the closeness to Scotland it has often been at the centre of many arguments over ownership . It was finally settled in 1617 by a simple test that had also been applied to the Isle of Man, if a snake or other poisonous serpent could survive on the island it was taken as being part of the mainland . If it died then Ireland was the owner, Ireland finally was declared the true owner .

Rathlin was also famous for smuggling – poteen, rum, brandy, tobacco, lace, etc. The Coastguard filled in Ushet Port with stones to make it unusable for the smugglers .
