I look strong but I cried my way through part of t

I look strong but I cried my way through part of this talk @qradiothon two years ago. Talking about self acceptance to a crowded room. A room full of people who have been or had been affected by cancer. This event raised money for four different cancer charities and I spoke about the loss of my dear cousin Avril. She died at the age of 41 after a short 7 month illness.

When I was in the room with Avril @mariecurienorthdowngroup near the end of her life, the cancer was through her body and light and sound affected her every day. We closed doors gently and kept tv to a minimum. I looked at her frail body , remembering jumping on a bouncy castle months before with our kids, and I thought “ is this it? Is this what life becomes in the midst of a horrendous illness?”.

I watched her incredible strength and humour and suddenly all the over thinking, worry about what people think, how we will get ALL the things done in the right timeframe- it faded. It minimised as I saw that life is right here, right now.

Add to that lockdown and we can feel so overwhelmed and sad. But please remember the value in who you are and what you can bring to the table. The things I spoke of in the speech above circulated around self acceptance

Keep movement in your life

Take one task at a time and breathe the air in as you do it

List three things you are grateful for at the beginning and end of each day. I promise, you may have to dig deep but it will change your perspective.

And keep talking. To friends, relatives, internet buddies ( stay safe though 🤪)

Dr Seuss wasn’t lying when he said “ there is no one alive who is youer than you”.

Ironically another loss from the speech that day is @radiostephen who you can see with myself and @radio.cate in the second photo. He introduced me and my painting behind me which is called ‘Avril’ and said it was a painting I made of myself stepping out of the bath 😂. The quickest wit of anyone on @goqradio and sorely missed.
